Precast Culverts

Scope of Work:

The design scope involved designing Precast Culverts for Highway loading LM1, LM2, and LM3, in accordance with PD6694 and Eurocodes for Bridges. The culverts were designed to withstand highway loading, thermal effects, and fatigue, with analysis conducted using STAAD Connect software. The combination of various load cases was considered, and the precast culverts were checked for deflection limits under service loads. Additionally, the end culverts were evaluated for sliding under the impact of vehicular loads on the parapet. The design also included the development of lifting and demoulding inserts, accounting for lifting angles, mold types, and dynamic factors based on crane specifications. The entire culvert design was carried out in line with the approval process. Throughout the design phase, close coordination was maintained with the geotechnical engineer, reviewing authority, precast manufacturer, and contractor to ensure alignment with site preferences and construction sequencing.
