Precast Chambers

Scope of Work:

The design scope involved designing Precast chambers and cover slabs. The chamber walls, which have a large opening, were analyzed using STAAD software. The walls were designed with pinned connections at the bottom, and the cover slab was supported by bearings on the wall, allowing the wall to be free at the top and pinned at the bottom. The chamber walls span horizontally, and the base slab was analyzed using STAAD Connect software for upthrust loads, with a pinned connection at the wall. At larger openings, the base slab was restrained in the Y-direction downward due to the culvert dead load. The construction process was split into two pours: In the first pour, the chamber precast walls were cast, and RFA strata boxes and couplers were provided in the precast chamber wall. In the second pour, the chamber precast base slab was cast, with the base slab reinforcement lapped with the strata box and coupler reinforcement.
