P&ID - Petrochemical Plant Project Overview:

The P&ID Petrochemical Plant represents a strategic digital transformation initiative by a European asset owner and operator to modernize a large-scale industrial facility through advanced digital engineering and integrated plant information management. With the plant’s production capacity ranging between 2 to 3 MMTPA, our team is leading a comprehensive program to transform legacy documentation into a high-fidelity, asset-centric digital ecosystem. This involves the meticulous digitization and updating of over 500 P&IDs based on verified site markups, ensuring that more than 20,000+ tagged equipment and instrumentation assets are intelligently tagged and integrated. By leveraging Scan-to-3D technology, Pan Gulf Technologies Limited is converting complex point cloud data into precise 3D models that reflect the facility’s exact as-built conditions.

 

The project establishes a connected and intelligent plant data environment by transforming fragmented engineering and operational information into a centralized digital ecosystem. This integrated framework creates a reliable single source of truth that improves data accessibility, supports lifecycle information management, and enables efficient operations, maintenance, and future plant modifications

Scope of Work:

1.Reviewing all basic engineering documents from client inputs.

2.P&ID’s Migrated and Executed the high-volume migration of 500+ complex P&IDs from legacy CAD formats into an intelligent, data-driven environment.

3.Data Standardization Performed comprehensive data cleansing and validation to ensure all engineering documentation meets global industry standards.

4.Developing a centralized Master Tag Register to provide a “single source of truth” for the facility equipment and instrumentation.

5.Integrating detailed equipment and instrument datasheets directly into the digital system for seamless technical referencing.

6.Configuring custom class libraries and attribute structures to align with the specific engineering requirements of the project.

7.Developing a robust PDM (Product Data Management) framework that links digitized P&IDs and 3D models into a centralized database to ensure consistent asset data across the project.

Intelligent P&ID’s:

Challenges Faced:

 

  • Data Filtration: Converting unstructured legacy information and hand-drawn site markups into a structured, intelligent digital format with standardized attributes.
  • PIP Standardization : Utilized PIP (Process Industry Practices) standards to ensure uniform symbology and tagging for all  valve types, precisely mapping sizes, pressure ratings, and fail-safe positions.
    • 2) Configured a detailed line numbering format following PIP standard identification codes for fluid service, pipe size, and insulation to enable seamless tracking across all schematics.  
    • 3) Enforced a consistent data structure based on PIP metadata requirements to ensure all digitized components are searchable and compatible with the plant’s asset management system.
  • Legacy Inconsistencies: Reconciling decades of outdated paper documentation with physical site markups to ensure “as-built” accuracy.
  • Asset Registry: Managing the intelligent data mapping and tagging for a massive inventory of over 20,000+ instruments and equipment.
