Tekla-modeled precast components for Sydney’s underground motorway ventilation building

About the Project

Pan Gulf Technologies Limited provided detailed precast modeling for the underground motorway scheme in Sydney—covering a 33 km tunnel network under construction. The work focused on the precast elements for the Exhaust and Supply Ventilation Building, including H-walls, planks, shell beams, and columns, with a total of 550 units modeled and fully documented using Tekla.

Client Overview

The project was part of a joint effort between the New South Wales and Australian governments. Delivered under tight deadlines, Pan Gulf was selected for its ability to manage challenging timelines and technical complexity.

Scope of Work

Created full 3D precast models in Tekla of the Exhaust and Supply Ventilation Building’s components: H-walls, planks, shell beams, and columns. Modeled a total of 550 precast units and produced comprehensive shop drawings.

Key Challenges

  • The project was already delayed at the client’s end, adding pressure to the schedule.

  • The multi-storey ventilation building required precise coordination between precast elements and supporting steel structures.

  • Design drawings were updated continuously, necessitating rapid adaptation and communication via Aconex.

  • A specialized Bar Bending Schedule (BBS) output was required, delivered in CSV format.

Solutions Delivered

Pan Gulf Technologies expedited delivery, completing the project two weeks ahead of the estimated delivery time. Our in-house Tekla technician created a custom program to automatically generate CSV-format BBS files. Stakeholder collaboration through Aconex ensured responsiveness to evolving design updates.

Software Used

Tekla Structures — for detailed 3D modeling and producing shop drawings.

Results Achieved

Delivered 550 accurately modeled precast units with complete shop drawing documentation. Exceeded timeline expectations by finishing two weeks ahead of schedule. Seamlessly integrated fabrication-ready BBS in CSV format via custom automation. Maintained robust communication with stakeholders through Aconex amid design changes.
